Reclaiming Peace Counseling Services, LLC
My Approach

Welcome, my name is Maddie Cilano, LCPC-C. I am a conditionally licensed clinical counselor in the state of Maine and owner of Reclaiming Peace Counseling Services, LLC. In my practice, I am informed by three powerful frameworks: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, and Attachment Theory to support and guide my clients on their healing journeys.

Internal Family Systems (IFS): Created by Dr. Richard Schwartz, IFS is a compassionate and non-pathologizing model that views the mind as a system of parts, each with its own unique perspective and function. By working with these parts, particularly the wounded and protective ones, we can achieve inner harmony and healing. IFS helps clients understand and connect with their internal family, fostering self-awareness and self-compassion.

Polyvagal Theory: Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory emphasizes the importance of the autonomic nervous system in regulating our emotional and physiological states. This theory provides a biological understanding of how we respond to stress and trauma. By incorporating Polyvagal Theory, I help clients recognize their nervous system states and develop strategies to shift towards safety and connection, enhancing their resilience and emotional regulation.

Attachment Theory: Rooted in the work of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, Attachment Theory explores how early relationships with caregivers shape our patterns of attachment and influence our relationships throughout life. Understanding these attachment styles allows us to address relational wounds and build secure, healthy connections. Through this lens, we explore how past experiences impact present behaviors and relationships, facilitating growth and healing.

By integrating these three approaches, I offer a holistic and tailored therapeutic experience. This method allows us to address the complex and interconnected aspects of your mental health, providing a comprehensive path towards healing and well-being. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or relational issues, my goal is to create a safe and supportive space for you to explore, heal, and thrive.
Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I look forward to working together on your journey towards self-discovery and healing.
