My Approach
Welcome, my name is Maddie Cilano, LCPC-C. I am a conditionally licensed clinical counselor in the state of Maine and owner of Reclaiming Peace Counseling Services, LLC. In my practice, I am informed by several powerful frameworks, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Attachment Theory, which guide my work with clients on their healing journeys.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Psychodynamic therapy focuses on understanding how past experiences, particularly early relationships, influence our current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By exploring patterns that may exist beneath the surface of conscious awareness, we can gain deeper insight into the roots of distress and begin to shift long-standing emotional and relational patterns. This approach supports meaningful self-understanding and lasting change.
Polyvagal Theory: Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, Polyvagal Theory emphasizes the role of the autonomic nervous system in shaping our emotional and physiological responses. This framework provides a biological understanding of how our bodies respond to stress, safety, and connection. By incorporating Polyvagal-informed practices, I help clients better understand their nervous system states and develop tools to support regulation, resilience, and a greater sense of safety.
Attachment Theory: Rooted in the work of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, Attachment Theory explores how early relationships with caregivers shape the way we relate to ourselves and others. Understanding attachment patterns can illuminate relational wounds and help foster more secure and fulfilling connections. Through this lens, we explore how past experiences continue to influence present relationships and emotional responses.
By integrating these approaches, I offer a thoughtful and holistic trauma informed therapeutic experience that honors both the mind and body. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where clients can explore their experiences, deepen self-awareness, and move toward healing and growth.
Thank you for considering me as your therapist. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward greater understanding, healing, and well-being.
